Revised?

My son just started his Swimming MB and we have the 2002
requirements. His counselor said that he thinks #2b has been
changed so that instead of just "demonstrating CPR skills",
that you must now have an official certification. Can anyone
confirm this? Thank you.

CPR certification is not required although it is always
worthwhile.

Once a Scout "starts" a MB, he can stick with that set of
requirements (current at the time) until he completes the
badge or ages out ( turns 18 ).

A Scout also has the option of dropping the old set of
requirements and completing the new set. But, he can't mix and
match different requirements between the old and new
requirements to make one MB. Either way, he must complete all
the requirements, as written, for one (the old) or the other
(the new) in order to receive the MB.

Although the MBC, and only the MBC, determines if the
participant has met the requirements, he (or she) may not add
to, relax or otherwise modify (or incorrectly interpret) the
requirements. Do means do. Discuss means discuss. Demonstrate
means demonstrate. The MBC may use his knowledge and
experience to add to or increase the participant's knowledge
or learning experieince. Even so, the requirement itself, as
written, is the only determining factor.

For example, a MBC may offer a course in CPR (to group of
Scouts earning the the 'Swimming' MB) as part of the learning
experience; but, the Scouts cannot be required to take it that
far. The requirement must only be met, as written. And, in
this case, CPR Certification is far above it takes to meet the
requirement. Either way, it's up to the Scout.
