Tonight our troop had a court of honor and I recieved my safety merit badge, but I had a white + logo encircled in bright green and trimmed with a silver borderline. Isn't the silver trim only used for eagle required merit badges?
Can I upload a picture?

Charlie is correct. Safety was required until April 1, 1999, so the badge you got was produced before then.

So it dosn't count as an Eagle required? My Merit Badge sash will look kinda funny with 13 Eagle required badges on it.

My BS Handbook was made in 1998, but dosn't show safety as Eagle required.

The current safety badges have the green border. Yours is just old. I have a couple of that vintage in my extra badge bag, but I don't give them out.
Don't worry about the sash looking funny. My older son earned cycling before it became a required badge and his sash ended up with only 11 silver bordered badges as a result.
If it really bothers you, have it replaced with a green bordered one. Badges coat about $1.30, so it shouldn't be an issue.

I bet somebody would be willing to buy the new badge and trade the new badge for the older badge.

Don't worry about it. My Canoeing MB patch has been upside down since 1968 and no one seems to care!

Kevin puts him badges on his sash as he earns them. So they are all mixed up anyway. I had suggested that he put all eagles down one side but being a typical 11/12 year old he did it his way. And since he has to sew them on it is his deal.
So don't worry about your sash looking funny.
OK Rick. Did you earn Underwater Canoeing

My boys wanted them in the order they were earned. I sewed most of them and one smart aleck tried to complain his First Aid was upside down!

i sewed mine in the dark one time, so they were all turned around and goofy looking. l tried spelling out Hi going vertical with all my non required badges that i earned (i have 40 at least..). I have some like sports when it was required back in the late 90s along with safety. They were the first two i ever earned as a first year, so those are the ones i have straight. But ones like personal fitness i have the little guy rong side up so he looks like hes doing a cartwheel

on this subject, does anybody here think safety should still be Eagle required?
P.S. Fearless, I love that song. Do you ever listen to total axxess on the radio? that song was number one on the hotlist (5 hottest songs on the planet) the other night.

"old" merit badges that are no longer made have been found sitting on council store shelves as long as 35 years after production ceased. I know this because about 6 months ago I found an Engineering MB that had been made in the 1960s at the council store. This is a lot more common than you'd think, but is rarer once the 10-15 year time frame has passed. This occurs more with the less common MBs and also because when the clerks stock the shelves, they just put the new ones on the top.
So, if you're a collector, scrounge your store and look on the bottom of the piles!
