My boy who is getting to be to smart by half wants to satisfy PF Req. 7 at the same time he is working on Sports 5, and develop an exercise routine that takes care of both at once. Assuming he can sell it to his MBC (happens to be the same person), is there a problem with getting a 2-for-1 special in this case?

Earning the merit badges is really more about learning about sports and fitness and their rules and benefits than about how many exercises did you do. If the counselor accepts it, then let it be.

No problem if the MBC says okay. Remember the PF MB has specific requirements to be tested on. Tell him to look at Athletics #3 too for a 3 point play, FG, birdie or bad bowling shot which ever sport you play. Can't use Trifecta betting as a sport.

My son used his Waterpolo work-outs and it motivated him to get a double sign-off. Go for it.

Yes. there is a problem. The requirements for Sports MB specifically state:
Note: The activities used to fulfill the requirements for the Sports merit badge may not be used to help fulfill requirements for other merit badges.

He can however, given the length of the sport season, still do both. The first 12 weeks for PF MB, then the balance on the Sports MB.
