Climbing Merit Badge! What does a scout need to know Before

Postby wagionvigil » Sat Feb 21, 2009 9:52 am

. Any scout taking climbing merit badge must do the following before ever contacting a counselor
1. Get some basic knowlege of the sport. A very good resource is, Duh! the Climbing MB Pamphlet.
2. Review the First Aid for the MB. This is Basic Second and First Class First Aid. Please never allow a scout that is not at least First Class take this MB unless they HAVe First AId.
3. Learn The Knots Gee This is an excellent Troop activity.

4. Practice those knots. ANd never allow anyone to make fun of a scout that backs off.
5. Understand that most climbing Instructors do not give partials, except at a scout camp.
6. Boys that already have the merit badge should NEVER sign up to take it again, schedule them for a Rappelling/climbing session if possible. The same with adults.ADULTS DO NOT TAKE MERIT BADGES.
7. If you are going anywher Make sure you file a tour permit and have health forms. I do not provide Climbing of anytype to a scout group without a tour permit.
