Is a family outing to the Cultural Gardens in our area considered an "event"?
http://culturalgardens.org/default.aspxI was thinking of bringing my son and in-laws to the gardens today and wanted to
"sell" it to my son by telling him it could fulfill a requirement, but honestly I am not sure it will.
I think that he will learn a lot about the different cultures that immigrated here
by attending the gardens and doing this self guided tour...
but please give me feedback so that I don't steer him in the wrong direction.

THANKS!

He should ask his Merit Badge Counselor.

From the brief descriptions, I would be inclined to count it. However, it is not technically an 'event', and would be up to the counselor to decide if they want to count it. If they don't count a visit to the garden, they probably would count events at the garden like the German Festival or the Hungarian Goulash cook-off this weekend.

I knew those things would count.... the "problem" is that we live about 45 minutes from there...
No biggie, really. We will find something closer to home within the month...
I would love for him to ask his counselor but this merit badge is being put on by a local park. My son will spend
from 830am until 4pm there on one day. The park has sent a list of requirements to be done in advance.
We don't know the name of the counselor the park will have on hand.
Had I planned this in advance, we would have tried to contact the park and get the counselor name, but
eh... life happens.
My son went along with us all, happily, to the gardens and said if it doesn't count it doesn't matter.
Thanks for the feedback, both of you!

Sorry for the terse reply. Whether or not something "counts" is generally up to the Merit Badge Counselor.
If the prerequisite list says requirement 7, you might want to do a & b, or two from a, b & c if your son knows an exchange student. If you do know an exchange student, try to recruit him or her to go with you to the event.

I really didn't think that you were being "terse". Thanks though.

I will tell him.... let's see if he can do the math and figure out that he will be over 18!
