Invention Merit Badge (1911-1914)
In 1914, Graeme Thomas Smallwood, Troop 32, Washington D.C., was the only Boy Scout to ever earn this award. Here is a link to the Washington Times Article, June 14, 1914, Page 4.

In June, 1914, Boys Life Magazine announces the merit badge will no longer be offered 10/1/1914.

Thanks to Bart Humphries we even know the invention!

I will try and get the patch. I believe I know where it might be. Let's hope it is still there.

Steven Price from BSA National Archives sent this link. But he is not sure it is accurate.:

It was a coat sleeve covering. Basically you have a Scout uniform coat/jacket, with fasteners (buttons? loops?), and you can go around with the ordinary coat or you can fasten on a piece of cloth on which merit badges had been sewn.

There's a few nifty images of how it would look, and more descriptive text at https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=pate ... 162523.pdf
