Remember if you want changes made to requirements drop a line to the National HQ. I know they print new requirements. The address is inside the front cover of the meritbadge book.

Maybe you could explain about exactly what you mean "Making changes to requirements".

Mick Scouter wanted to know what I mean by making changes to merit badges. This is best expalained by the following example. The fishing merit badge talks about catching 2 fish releasing one and cooking another.I know there are many interpretaions of this requirementjust by reading the forum. In my home state they have issued a fish consumption advisory for children under 15 yrs old. This requirement in my eyes becomes a potential safety concern. Many other states have also issued advisories.
I wrote national about this issue. Hopefully they will cahnge the requirement.
Hope this answers the question

The way you stated it is correct - no need for change. COOK IT - no mention about eating it. We just did the badge last weekend.

I think the whole idea here is that sometimes merit badge requirements just do not make sense for some things. If you think that all merit badge books are perfect, well......
Anyway, when you know that a requirement doesn't work for some reason, you can suggest a change to National by sending in a request to change the requirement. I am betting that National logs the requests and when enough come in, or if the request just makes sense, then they consider changing the requirments. It isn't as though your request will make a change, because if they do, we would have changes going back and forth and lots of them all the time.
Certainly there is a committee that reviews the requested changes and updates the books as needed. They need the end users input in order to know what is and is not working, therefore, send in your requests for a change and the reasons why. If it works, you will see a change in the next book. If it doesn't work, don't get discouraged, they just didn't see a need for a change.
Does that help?

Hamish 17 responded cook it not eat it. Why kill a fish if you are not going to utilize it. Seems to go against the principles of scouting. We should practice catch and release instead and help preserve our delicate planet. Why do we merit badges like Fish and Game and Soil and water,Nature etc

I think he meant that the scout doesn't need to eat it. Some states I wouldn't, just because there is a warning to not eat it. The adult who is with the Scout can eat it. Nothing wrong with that.

Some of the advisories say do not eat the fish at all,no matter what age.
