Insect Study

Postby Ledbeth » Sun Aug 07, 2005 10:15 pm

Question: Do all of the 50 Specimens that need to be collected ( once the requirements for family/species have been met) need to be of unique insects - ie can there be more that one Monarch butterfly specimen?

Thanks
Ledbeth

I counsel this badge. I will allow two different types of beetles from the same family, such as a green, red or white backed spiked beetle. So they can be from the same family but different groups inside that family.

It took Kevin about 2 months to get all 50 of his bugs. He had a ball doing it.

I don't have 2 months! I only have 4 weeks! I have 8 bottles of bugs, and all 4 bugs escaped. I'm trying to do it at summer amp. How do you suggest I mount them?

I am sure the MB book can answer your question.

I counsel this badge. I dislike the idea of killing of any creature for the purpose of mounting them. My dislike. If a boy says that he also dislikes having to kill the insects I will allow him to bring them to me alive. Marked in containers. I will meet with the boy as many times as he needs to to show me all 50 bugs. Had a young man that would being me 5-6 at a time. Then he would release them. But he still brought me all 50, classifies and labled.

Why is it you say you only have 4 weeks? There is no time requirement of any badge except for ones that have to have records kept for a period of time.
