Music MB - Duration for Reqt #6-C

Postby pdenardis » Tue Apr 25, 2006 12:20 pm

For Music MB requirement #6-C. does the scout have to be a member of a band or orchestra for a 6-month period beginning with the date the blue card was opened - or does past experience count toward that requirement? The reason I ask is that my son has been playing an instrument for almost 10 years and has been in school bands every school year since. Cumulatively, this amounts to much more than simply 6 months.

I's appreciate any feedback on this.

Thank you very much.

that would be an question that his MBC would need to ask. but since I also am the MBC for the music merit badge as long as he has been a member of a band or Orchestra since he became became a scout then i would have no problem using that.

it is up to the counselor. though offical rules say a scout can not start work for a merit badge without a signed blue card

Where is that "official rule?" I believe you're off just a touch.

From my understanding, the only rule for starting a MB is that the boy is a registered boy scout
If it is not written down then it is not an official rule
