According to info at the Scouting Magazine website (http://www.scoutingmagazine.org/issues/ ... lhead.html), the requirements will be posted on April 12. I doubt we will see them before that. (If they are 'on time' like the last new MBs, we may not see requirements until 2012)

Two of our Scouts took a practice Robotics MB workshop at our Merit Badge Weekend last fall. They both really enjoyed the class. It should be a good one!

They had it in the MB Midway at Jamboree last summer too. Since there are no requirements yet, it was just a chance to play with robots. There was no attempt to learn anything about the subject.

The Robotics class at our MB Weekend was taught by one of the MB authors and the Robotics Venturing Crew that helped to develop the MB. I was teaching Reptile & Amphibian Study on the other side of the wall and it sounded like they were having fun & learning.

We picked up the book yesterday and by mid-afternoon, all three of my sons had finished it. I think the middle guy has it hidden under his pillow now. Needless to say, they are anxious to delve into it.

Where did you get the book? I thought it wasn't going to be available until 4/12.

If you do have it, can you scan in and send me the requirements, so we can get them posted here and on the USSSP? I'll also see about putting together a worksheet for the badge.

Absolutely. It will probably be late this evening or tomorrow. We were at a service center on Monday and talked to the shop manager about it. They had gotten a release from BSA that morning to sell the items. They had the books, badges, and two kits for sale.

If they're not too long, just type them into a posting

Just got off the phone with one of my contacts at the NDC... it is official: Scout Shops are putting the Robotics MB materials (MB pamphlet, badge and "kit") out on the shelves today.

So, if somebody could post the requirements, exactly as written in the MBP... I'd love to put them up on the wiki !!!

(Paul probably has them, but since they haven't been released yet, hasn't posted them (here or) at USSSP.)

Thanks, in advance.

The requirements are now posted on the USSSP at http://usscouts.org/mb/mb1416.asp.

They should be posted on the wiki soon.

I saw the kits that were in the Scout Shop and although I didn't look closely at them, one looked like a remote control car.

On pg 11 of the MB pamphlet it says Remote-control cars, helicopters, boats, etc., or computer simulations are not robots for the purpose of this merit badge.

First Robotics www.usfirst.org. has a multitude of robotic team competitions for ages 1st through high school. Any one of them could be used to satisfy the requirements of the meritbadge. You would, of course make sure you do the specific requirements of the merit badge.

While the official unveiling of the Robotics MB isn't until tomorrow, April 12, 2011... it's already been getting plenty of press. Of course, you can Google it, but here's a couple of good examples:

National put the requirements up on Scouting.org (and more importantly, boyslife.org/robotics, which you definitely need to check out) a couple of days ago.

Paul has put the requirements and worksheet up on USSSP; and, of course, we have them on the wiki, too.

:!: Please download the worksheet from USSSP or the wiki.
