With all the fund raising going on in Schools and in troops
most scouts should be able to get this MB with ease

Reguarding the poll question.

No I dont think scouting relys too much on fundrasing. Not all
troops are lucky to have a generous donor. Fundrasing also
provides a valuable skills (people skills is a big one) to the
boys who do the fundrasing programs.

How well do your popcorn sales do? Our troop has sold popcorn for the last 10+ years and I think some are getting tired of it? It may be time for a change?

In our council the Popcorn fundraiser is a rather new thing (the program was started here about two years ago). Things are going pretty well, at the beginning it was kind of slow, since our leaders were not used to the system. But as time has gone by more and more units join in the program.

Perhaps it's a timing thing.....usually when our council is selling popcorn, the school has several fundraisers going on, sports teams, etc.

Right now in our area there are 3 different school fund raisers, Two churches are selling stuff. And popcorn. Saturday, I had 5 different kids come to my door selling things. Two I bought from and three I didn't.

I know the council gets approx. 30-35% of the profits and the troops, packs, and crews, etc. get the rest.

I think that they are hoping the BSA and Popcorn will become synonymous like the Girl Scouts and their cookies!

I doubt that will ever happen....buy you never know?

In some councils it already has, if not in volume then in gross profit.

Not sure who "they" are though? Popcorn sales is not a BSA national program and never has been. It is a council choice. So if by "they" you mean the council , then they is actually "all of us".

Not all councils by the way use popcorn as a fundraiser. Of the councils that do, not all use the same popcorn, or the same manufacturer.
