My son got up on the skis and could ski around in the circles the boat was doing but was never able to ski on one ski or cross the wake 3 times. The last scout that got this badge at our camp was taking the badge for the 4th time.

My son completed everything except staying up on one ski, this made him take the badge over the following year, which is when he passed.

A friend sent me a note a couple of days ago saying the she had seen the new pamphlet in her Scout Shop in Florida, #33348B, (c) 2007, so it's definitely true. I assume it will be a a simple replacement/renaming, since the previous Waterskiing pamphlet was #33348A, (c) 1999, and is no longer available at that shop.

However, until I can get a copy of the pamphlet and compare the new and old requirements, and until we see something official from BSA, we won't know for sure whether a Scout with Waterskiing MB can also earn and get advancement credit for the new badge. As soon as I can, I'll post the revised requirements to the US Scouting Service Project site, but due to a planned trip, that won't be until sometime in September.

Have anyone heard any more about this?

It is a simple renaming and revision of the requirements to add wakeboarding, similar to the replacement of Skiing with Snow Sports a few years ago (1999). The revised requirements are up on the USSSP at http://usscouts.org/mb/mb115-08.asp

If a boy has already started Water Skiing can he earn both?
If you don't take care of the Cub Scouts there will be no Boy Scouts!

No. If he has already started Water Skiing, he should complete that. If he's starting now, he should complete Water Sports. He cannot earn BOTH, since both are listed as merit badge no. 115 in BSA's records. You can only earn a merit badge once, even if the name of the badge changes. (Such as Mammals / Mammal Study, Skiing / Snow Sports, Firemanship / Fire Safety, Handicapped Awareness / Disability Awareness, Atomic Energy / Nuclear Science, and a number of others.).

Only when a badge (or badges) is completely replaced with a different badge (or badges) can a Scout earn two (or more) badges in the same basic subject, such as Rifle & Shotgun Shooting MB, which was replaced with Rifle Shooting MB and Shotgun Shooting MB in 1987, and Printing/Communications MB and Bookbinding MB, which were both replaced with Graphic Arts MB, also in 1987. In those cases, Scouts could earn both the old and new badges.

Trust me it takes practice, unless you have done it before you will not just jump on the skis and away you go.
