I agree. Pop Warner Football played while a CUB Scout should not be counted toward a BOY Scout advancement.

"a Scout can begin working on a requirement at any time" ordinarily means "at any time since joining a BOY Scout troop" Exceptions would normally only be for things like this:

Collect and identify 50 foreign coins from at least 10 different countries.

It would be foolish and meaningless to not count a collection started before a boy joined Boy Scouts.

It might be up to the counselor because it is all ultimately up time counselor. But you should not count achievements while registered as a Boy Scout. Not stuff done a cub or non scout.

Since BSA states that a Scout can begin working on a requirement at any time, can a Scout count playng football for a Pop Warner team prior towards the Sports MB even if he played while he was a Cub Scout? I know that different counselor's have different opinions on it and would like the expert's opinion. I've seen some counselor's accept it and some say they had to be a Boy Scout when they played the sport. I also had a counselor sign off when the badge was taken at camp for two seasons of baseball and no other sport. - Thanks

Not as a Cub! Or can the boy who took ballet when he was 3 count that, too? Think of other badges -- would you count anything done before becoming a Scout as valid? No way.

Two sports means two different sports. This is one reason I hate long badges being signed at camp. *sigh*

Thanks for confirming what I believed to be the spirit of the time frame. It hasn't come up, but I am sure that it will at some point.
