Good Turn For America

Our pack never posted hours to Good Turn For America. We tried years ago and had trouble. We just re-looked at it and succeeded entering hours. As part of research though, we see that the initiative ends this year. I'm not sure that information is current though.

QUESTION - Does anyone know the future of Good Turn For America initiative?

QUESTION - Is it worth our entering our hours in it now?

In retrospect, our pack and troops could easily enter hundreds if not thousands of hours from Scouting For Food, church and school clean ups, homeless shelter assistance, planting trees, buck thorn removal and also all the service hours donated at local scout camps.

No idea what the future of the program is, but I it would have been much more effective had they made some way to look at the hours for a unit. I am the one who does all of the logs for our Troop. The only way to see the "work" is to log in. The rest of the Troop can not look at it unless I give them my password. There is no way to look at cumulative hours unless you click on each entry and add the hours manually. Had they made it so that anyone could look at a units hours there would have been more participation. Competition would have increased both entry of hours, and also actual service.

I have heard nothing about the program ending. My curiosity has taken over . I will do some more research and post when I have info.

That would be great. We are just finishing our pack annual plan and could work it in.

I did not find any information indicating Good Turn for America is ending in an on line search. I have turned to Council in an effort to get answers . I will advise.

I apologize for the delay in getting back to the forum ,I started a new career after being out of a job 2.5 years .

Since the Good Turn for America is referenced in the 2010 Centennial Patch program for both Scouts and Adults and they want you to record your service hours under the COMMUNITY SERVICE ribbon, I would find it highly unlikely that the program is going away.
