ACRONYMS CONCERNING BOY SCOUTS and ADVANCEMENT

G2SS, Guide To Safe Scouting
TDL, Two-deep Leadership
YPT, Youth Protection Training
Advancement -- All ranks
MB, Merit Badge (No restrictions other than 18th birthday)
ER, Eagle-required MB
MBC, Merit Badge Counselor
SMC, Scoutmaster's Conference -- Must be conducted by a UL. More than one may be conducted. Though often considered to be "against the rules", or at least faux pax, the SMC may be conducted at any time by the UL, even if he or she is a relative, even for Eagle.
BOR, Board of Review -- Must be last item for advancement. Typically conducted by three (or more) MCs, and never by a UL or any person of which the candidate is also the child, ward or relative thereof.
Advancement -- Scout - First Class
"The requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class ranks may be worked on simultaneously; however, these ranks must be earned in sequence."
Advancement -- Star - Eagle
Active tenure, active service in a Position(s) of Responsibility, and work on a Service Project(s), must be accomplished while a "_____" Scout. For example, the moment the BOR signs off on a Scout's Life BOR, he immediately becomes a Life Scout--at that very moment... not before, not after, not the date of the COH, not the date the Scout receives his (Life Rank) Advancement Card, which is supposed to, but may not, reflect the date of the BOR.
Advancement -- Eagle
ESLP, Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project
SMC, Scoutmaster's Conference (for Eagle) -- Must be conducted by a UL. Although more than one may be conducted, the "date of completion" for the SMC for Eagle must always be AFTER everything -and- I mean everything (except, of course, the ESBOR)... otherwise, National will kick it back.
ESBOR, Eagle Scout Board of Review -- Three to six people sit on this board. (Note, I did not say registered Scouters, MCs, or anything like that. Just no ULs.)
