Well there is no place near us that offers lessons or anything like that. I have been taking him to meetings though with another troop. He has gotten three badges through this other troop and the scout master there thinks that he will be able to teach him and get him past this. He said he use to be a swim instructor and he has taught other scouts. Hopefully this will help.

I guess I'm just amazed given the size of the North Florida Council and the fact they have their own Aquatics Camp that getting him to a place to help him swim is hard.

They are a trip. I told the guy in charge, not his scout master when he first joined, he couldn't swim. That was when he was 11. I said it several times and a couple of months ago, they acted like they didn't know. I would switch troops. The one that I have been bringing him to every other week is so different and helpful, but they are over an hour away. I didn't even know they had the camp you just mentioned. This other scout master is planning to teach him next Saturday. He is so different of a scout master. I think what is wrong with my son's troop is that there are to many people in charge. The old saying holds true. There is a guy that is somehow over his scout master...I don't know his position...but he seems to make the rules.

Sometimes a change is good for the program. If your son flourishes with the other troop the I would suggest a trip every week to that NEW troop. I did that while my son was in Cubbies. When he crossed over to the Troop we are still active with in 2001 we drive about 45min to hour each way. So sometimes change is good for the child maybe not us BUT remember why you are his parent.

You are so right. I am trying to go every week. Sometimes I can't. I am a single mom. I still have in his original troop, so he still goes once a week, but sometimes he goes twice.
