Requirement changes in 2006?

I am looking for a change to any Rank requirements or Merit Badges that would be effective 1/1/06. We started a Merit badge class last year then found out it had changes. What is the best way to find this and when does it become available?

At least 15 merit badges have had new pamphlets issued since January 1, 2005, each with at least some changes, and most with major changes to the requirements. One change to the Requirements for First Class has previously been announced as taknig effect on January 1, 2006.

Other changes won't be known until the 2006 edition of Boy Scout Requirements (Publication 33215) is released. It should be out soon, but no announcement has been made yet.

I'll post any other changes as soon as I can get a copy of the book.

Keep in mind that, for MERIT BADGES, if you start with old requirements, you CAN use them until the Scout completes tha badge or turns 18.

For the rank requirement change, any Scout who had his Second Class Board of Review before the end of 2005 has until June 30, 2006, to complete First Class without the need to complete the new requirement.

As a followup, I got my 2006 Catalog today in the mail. Here's what I found:

In addition to the 15 merit badge pamphlets with changes that I already knew about, it shows stock number changes, representing revisions to the books, for four more pamphlets (Camping, Crime Prevention, Genealogy, and Skating) .

The "blurb" for the Requirements Book in the catalog says "... including 21 with updated requirements ...". I know of only 15, from the books issued during 2005 that I have already, so I assume the four I mention above probably have changes to the requirements in addition to the changes in the body of the pamphlets, and at least two other merit badges have changed requirements.

I just ordered the book and pamphlets on-line, so I should see them next week. I'll update my web site as soon as I can once I get the books.

Although the web site still shows the mb pamphlets at 3.25 each, and the requirements book at 3.75, the catalog shows them as $3.50 each (on an errata sheet inserted in the binding) and $3.95, so expect to pay a bit more for them this year.
