What's up with the rash of recent double posts?

When I clicked submit, the site went to an error page.

Optimist - I confirm what has been said. I get an error page (mentions Debug, but I didn't think to copy down the text -- sorry), but if you ignore it and just go back to the forum, you get 1 copy posted.

If you need the technical info, I'll send it the next time I encounter the error.

Which would, of course be now.

The dialog box is: General Error

The text is:

Failed sending email :: PHP ::

DEBUG MODE

Line : 234
File : emailer.php

Hope this helps.

All,

Thanks for keeping us informed when such problems arise. Please do not dispair, though... Right now, we're thinking the problem is not with the phpBB software, but with the server. So, we are working with the hosting service (first) to get the Debug issue resolved.

Also, concerning double posts... you can delete your own posts by clicking on the small "X" button in the upper right-hand corner of your messages. (Plus, we get them when we come across them.)

Are you sure this is activated for the common user? I've posted to other phpBB boards, and in one, I see that little X in all my posts. In another I am a Moderator and see it in all posts (so I can delete doubles).

When I hover over the little edit icon, it says "edit/delete post", but I don't see an X when I click there either.

[Edit] Never mind. I see it now. It did not appear the first time I got a double post in a topic. It must only appear when my post is the last one in a thread. When I look at threads I've posted in (but not the last entry in the thread) it only shows the edit icon on my entries.[/edit]

Another way around the double post is to click on the header for the forum as soon as you get the error message. This sends the orignal post but no more.

I did not know about the posting problem and some of us are slower than others so I triple posted. So sorry. It was a longer than normal post and I did not want to rewrite so I was trying to get to work.

I'm a mod for some other forums and we get that error a lot. I honestly don't know what it means but it doesn't (or shouldn't) hamper your ability to make posts, etc.

Is there any patch that one of the admins, that fix this, I used to deal with phpbb until my host switched to simple maching forums. I know they are really good about the patchs.

I have experienced that error quite a few times lately. It seems to happen when I am editing and previewing for a long time. I can then go back and delete my double posts, however.
