[FYI] Accidental Double (Duplicate) Posts....

Admin note: This topic was split from another thread...

kwildman wrote:(To: Wagionvigil) okay so you said it twice.

Just FYI (for those wondering what you're comment actually meant)... We delete those dreaded double/triple posts whenever we come across them... esp. our own.

I was using a PC at a school today where I was subbing and there were some Internet Problems.

I know I am retired but they made me an offer I could not refuse.

I know we're OT here; but... let me say one more thing (for our users)...

Usually, it's (a double post) the user accidentally double-clicking on the "Submit" button. But, more commonly, what happens is there's a "lag" in the connection somewhere along the line (this could be anywhere) and the phpBB "appears" to behave like the user's first attempt to click "Submit" was missed or otherwise not "received"... so, the user hits it again. Hence, the double-post.

But, frankly, there's a "fault" in the phpBB software itself because it allows this and it should not. There's a minimum time limit between attempting to "edit" a post... so, why can't there also be a minimum time limit between attempting to "submit" a post? (Maybe I should go back and double-check the documentation to see if there's an admin setting for this. If not, I'd call that a bug... a developer, however, would call it a feature request. Heh, heh, heh. Not that I'm whining... I'm not... phpBB is free... and free is good.)

Gotta go to R/T. Later, y'all.

I was just having some fun. Know all to well about double posts. Pete and Repete. There should be a setting for minimum time between posts as it is an easy way to eliminate spamming.

Yeah, it's called "Flood Interval" and is set to 15 seconds, which, you'd think would be plenty. (I just bumped it up to 30.)

I have another idea that I'll discuss with the other admins; and, if we concur, I'll post back here.

RW you guys have done an awesome job with this site and I amazed that the flooders, spambots, and generally annoying posters haven't been a problem. Alot of the tech forums that I am on have had to resort to all kinds of stuff to filter and weed out these problems. It gets really old dealing with CAPTCHA and I really hate trying to figure out if that gibberish is a 1, l, I, etc. I hope we never get to that.
