I bought a copy of the US Army Survival Manual at a second-hand bookstore. I take it on all campouts.

One day at summer camp this past year it rained all afternoon.
One of the boys saw the book and asked if he could look at it.

A couple of others got on either side of him and the three looked through the book for over an hour.

They were so interested it was as if one of them was holding a GameBoy.

I have a "Book Box" that goes on every camping trip with us. It if full of things just like this. Books relating to out of doors. Field books on bugs, trees, plants, snakes, etc. There isn't a caming trip we go on that the boys don't get is out.

your community is a tree. You are either a leaf that feeds it or mistletoe that suckes it dry. Be sure you are always a leaf.

you can read just about any army FM online. Survival is the FM 21-76. Just google it and you should see a PDF.
