Camp Alpine

Postby scubascout » Sat Feb 10, 2007 1:53 pm

Our troop is going to Camp Alpine in NJ in 2 weeks and were treating it like a backpacking trip. It is an active boy scout camp. But were bringing GPS, ultra light stoves, water purifiers, radios, ropes, nalgenes, ect. Were going to hike along the palicades for 7 miles before we get to camp. This will prep us for the portion of the AT trail we plan to do.

We just got back and i am achy and tired. otherwise it went well. The 7 and a half mile hike was over 4 inches of snow and ice. It took us five and a half hours. But it is all prep for the AT Trail. We stayed in lean tos and has fire pits for each lean to so it was warm. we went to sleep and let the fire die down so it was really cold. This morning we had another fire and then packed up and hiked out of the camp. We got lucky beacuse we just had to hike in the cars in the parking lot.

We didnt get to look around camp much, but they have a nice and really big camp store and the hike was beautifull
