currently, i am basically ready to finalize a canoe trip for next summer. my question is, how much to i tip the guide? 15%, 20%, how much is a good amount?

at least 20% or more if they do a good job!

IMHO: well, does he work for a company or himself? depends on how long, if he is good 20 percent is high unlesss he is good

20% is not high. Most of the people working rivers are college kids and depending what thay are doing earn about 40.00 per day which is not much considering they do about 8 hours for a 4 hour raft trip down the lower Yough for instance. I would not even consider less than 10.00 on a trip of 4 hour or 5 hours.

this canoe trip i am planning is going to be a weeks worth of paddling. as far as i know, he works for himself, however, he does own an outfitting service.
