I need a good GPS task for Kids

Postby cad-guy » Tue Apr 17, 2007 2:57 pm

I have an opportunity to go to a 3 day camp for 4th graders. Some are scouts and some are not. The leaders of this camp have told me they have access to about 15 GPSRs. The way the camp works is there are different stations the kids will visit during the day for about an hour each. THere will be a bike riding station, art, fishing, etc. As the kids finish one, they take a 15 min. break and then move on the next station.

They would like for one of the stations to be a GPS class. I thought geocaching would be great, but don't know how I could handle 15 kids looking for the same geocache? Anybody have any thoughts how I could do this? I think it would be fun to find 1 cache, maybe it has a clue on which waypoint to go to next (it would be easier to have pre-programmed waypoints as opposed to trying to punch in new coords).

Anyway...I'm kind of rambling, but would really like some input on how to make this easy on me, but fun and educational for the kids. Any input will be greatly appreciated. THanks
