Beaumont Scout Reservation, Greater Cleveland Council, uses GPS devices for orientation for new arrivals at summer camp. Coordinates for all the various program locations/areas are given along with a GPS device. The boys then enter the coordinates and the GPS device tells them which direction/distance to travel/go.
After finishing in one program area, they enter the next set of coordinates and off they go. The camp gives out different sequences of GPS coordinates so everyone is not at the same program area at the same time.
The camp also has a GPS-equipped telescope. The GPS device knows where the telescope is "planted" (on earth) along with time, direction and azimuth of the tube (at what star/object the telescope is pointed). A small computer screen then tells the user what object/constellation they are looking at. I don't know exactly how accurate it is.
Obviously, it was donated, like the hand-held GPS units.
