Camp Fees

Just wondering what different camps are charging this season. I know Bucktail Council is charging $235 for early birds and I believe that it is $280 or around there after May 2nd. I am curious to see what other camps are charging.

Within NR Area 4 that is about average actually on the low end.

Longhorn Council is charging $200 per boy and $90 per leader. Longhorn Council has three operating summer camps and at one, Sid Richardson Scout Reservation, they offer several high adventure activities for older Scouts/Venturers.

Connecticut River Council is $325 for early birds and $355 for late comers. To be an early bird, your troop must place your name on the roster by Feb. 22, and pay a $50.00 deposit per scout by that date. Scouts joining after 2/22 have until May 15 to register at the early bird rate.

Next year there will also be a $50.00 per troop charge, on top of the per scout charge.

Two leaders get to go for free, and each additional leader is around $100.00 each. If you have a large troop attending (over 20 scouts) you can get an additional leader free.

Although we're not in the Buckeye Council (Canton, OH) we attend their primary camp, Seven Ranges.
It was built in 1987. They run a 7-week season.

I've been told it's the most-attended camp in OH, IN, KY, and western PA.
The week we were there in 2008 there were 425 scouts in camp. The following week there were over 600.
It has 25 campsites with only 3 openings left for the 2009 season.

Fees for 2009
In-council units (eating in dining hall): $230 with $90 for leaders.
Out of council units: $250 with $90 for leaders.
$10 discount per sibling.

A $30 discount can be earned if fees are paid 8 weeks prior to check-in date.

If you do "outpost" camping (cook your own food...refrigeration/storage provided) the fee is $150/scout and $25/leader.

Our fees at Camp Tri-Mount in the Catskills, Rip Van Winkle Council, are the same as yours Big Lou.

$205 for in-council early birds. Same price for the camp that fill the first week registration goes up or for the one that still has openings in June.

#1 is interested in going (provisional) to Camp Emerald Bay next summer -- $539 per week. But they ARE on Catalina island...

Simon Kenton has three camps - falling rock and chief logan reservation are 205 for earlybird and 225 after that. The third camp is Oyo which is geared for older scouts and high adventure and cost depends on program but in general is $250. 2 leaders free and $105 for each after that.

Chief Seattle Council: "Fees for 2009 will be $205 per Scout and $110 per paying adult for troops in the Chief Seattle Council. Out-of-council troops will pay $215 per Scout and $120 per paying adult." Camp Parsons on the Hood Canal filled completed by September; Camp Pigott in the Cascade foothills still has space.

Cascade Pacific: The boys loved their week at Camp Meriwether on the Oregon coast in 2007. The cost for 2009 is $250.

Inland Northwest: The troop's favorite camp is Camp Easton on Lake Coeur d'Alene, six hours away. They go every two or three years. The cost is $245 this year.

Mt Baker: The council hasn't yet set its fees, but our troop has reserved a large unit. We expect the cost to be $200 per scout. The troop will cover any extra costs (additional adults, gas, etc.)

I see some councils charge leaders.Our council gives two for free.

Ours gives two for free also and charges $90 per additional. I think that's what "paying adult" means in some of the above posts.

My troop takes the total adult cost and divides by the total number of adults attending camp. Four leaders would pay $45 each. Five would pay $54 each.

As mentioned by someone else, in our Troop we divide the total leader cost by the number of leaders and all pay the same.

The cost for additional adults is paid by the troop. That's why we do our big 4th of July Hamburger Stand fundraiser. We also pay drivers the IRS rate for mileage, currently $0.55 per mile, but only if they request the money.

OT: We also use this fundraiser money to cover costs for most of the moderately priced (<$25) activities for the Scouts. Scouts do not pay for Merit Badge Weekend, Klondike, Snow Caves, camp weekends (campground fees & food), Fright Fest Fun Night at the local amusement Park, or other inexpensive outings.

At Baden-Powell council in up state NY we have to camps. camp Barton on Cayuga lake ( one of the finger lakes) and camp Tuscarora which is by Deposit NY. The council is now charging two different prices. Early bird discount (before May 15) is $250 for distinguished troops and $275 for regular troops. After May 15 $275 for distinguished troops and $300 for regular troops.

Our council hasn't posted the 2009 Fee Schedule yet, but I can give you last years prices. I have heard that this year will be going up significantly. Someone decided that the paid staff should get more than $0.75/hour.

Our council does a Gold Club Discount (for troops who have met their FOS Assessment/Goal. Discounted Camp Fees, Eagle Recognition Kits, and Uniforms. I'm guessing that the Distinguished Troops menitioned above is something similar.

Last Year at Bear Lake Aquatics Base (and I believe the same for other council camps, although some also offered a commissary food option that would be a different price less than dining hall but more than bring-your-own) the fees were as follows.

Early Bird (Paid in Full by May)

- Youth bring your own food $115 ($103.50)
- Adult with Dining Hall $83 ($81.70)

Is that similar to "Quality Unit" award? If so, I can see why they might charge less. Takes a lot of organization and involvement by the ADULTS to earn that designation. That would translated (likely) into fewer paid staff needed for supervision.
