Summer Camping Season soon will be here. IS everyone ready?

Just looked at my calendar and realized Summer is almost here.Next Weekend is The Spring Camporee, Week after that is Memorial Day weekend and we have parades. The Next Weekend is Conclave at Heritage, the Next weekend is Wagions June Camp set up weekend, the the Next week is Training for my Climbing ,the next week is staff week and camp begins. It is coming very quickly and I just hope everyone is prepared.
I will try to fit in a little kayaking and personal climbing in there but it will be hard.

I am ready but my camping schedule had to be altered a little bit. Since getting the new job, I have Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday morning off. Which is nice. I have also figured out a way to get an extra 7 days of vacation too by not taking holiday pay. I will take the 8 hours PTO so I can go to summer camp with my Troop. I will not be there for about 1 day, but I am looking forward to this. For the first time in many, many moons, my Scout Troop will be taking 20 boys to Camp. Next year is going numbers wise is not going to be good. The numbers will not be as high but the Scouts that are not going to summer camp are going to the Jamboree! I have 3 that are registered for the NSJ and I think 2 more are in the process of signing up.

Ready any time to go to summer camp. Best week of the year. We, too, are taking more than our usual numbers. Our Troop grew in April from 9 Scouts to 21!

As the Cub Scout Summer Camp Director, I am getting ready to spend 5 weekends at camp. Three weekends are family camps, (Dad & Lad, Mom & Me, and Scout & Pal.) Two of the weekends are longer resident camps, one is for all Cubs and one is just for Webelos. Our theme for this summer is Circus Fun. I am hoping for a great summer!

I'm leaving for NCS-Aquatics in NC on Friday, so hopefully by the following Friday I'll be ready to be Aquatics Director for our camp's opening June 28th.

That would be an emphatic NO!!!!! I wish my schedule would slow down just a little. My wife has become a Scout-widow. I've had something Scout-related every weekend except two since the middle of March, and it's still going. Patrol camping this weekend, HA shakedown at Dolly Sods MD weekend, Jamboree leader meeting, troop canoeing, WB weekend #2, then a weekend off, and then another HA shakedown. I get two weeks to breathe in July, then it's off to High Knoll and then regular camp at Ottari.

Calgon, take me away!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tonight we will sit down with the boys to list out the merit badges they want to take. Online registration is May 26th and I want to be ready.

I will be taking a week off for summer camp (June 21st thru June 27th) then another week off as I staff WB (July 20th thru 25th).

I also will be helping out with Cub Day camp for a couple of days.

Our medical "officer" (one of our 3 MD dads) has nearly everyone's BSA medical/physical forms.
A lot of the Scouts have their MB prerequisites done.
All 7 WEBELOS that crossed over in March are attending summer camp.


Two years ago (when I became SM) we took five Scouts to camp.
This year we're taking 19 (with 6 doing a second week in July).

First thing to new leaders going to camp. If you are The Scoutmaster or acting Scoutmaster for the week then just remember you should have help going with you. Dont try to do it all DELEGATE. This will be my Third Final year going to camp. This will also be my Third year as Acting Scoutmaster For my troop. This will also be my Eight year going to camp and the Flamingo Farewell year. Oh and we are only taking 47 boys to camp and somewhere around 15 crossovers that will be their First year. Merit Badge shedules are done set with the camp and we are pumping up the kids for a great camp.

My son gets out of school on June 5th and reports for camp staff June 6th at 8:30 am and will be at one of 4 camps till July 31st then to NOAC Aug 1st -6th. Once he makes it home the next day we leave on a 3 day canoe trek. I hope he's ready to tackle it all.

Took some backpacking two weeks ago, doing it again this week, and again in three weeks. #1 is working on that badge, and couldn't find anyone else to take off work. Still trying to decide whether or not to make the required 30 into a 50, since other than the mileage, the award is pretty much the same!
