Pros & cons: Got a job offer at Philmont... Should I go?

Postby koohlman » Sun Jan 17, 2010 4:36 am

I need a little help. I just got a job at Philmont Scout Ranch, I am wondering what the pros and cons would be since I have never worked at a scout camp before, and it is a little distance from where I live in Utah so is it really worth it for me to go?

First welcome to the forum. I live in Western PA and we have had several from here work at Philmont both Girls and guys all returned after their first year a couple have returned several years one ended up with a full time position he later transfered to Northern Tier. SO distance is not an issue for those that have done it.
It is a great opportunity and I am sure you willreally enjoy it.

A young lady that used to be in my Venture Crew worked at Philmont one summer. It was the opportunity of a lifetime for her. Well worth it.

I wish I would have had the opportunity to work at Philmont as a young man.

Take the job...don't worry about the pay.
The memories (that you'll have forever) will be priceless.

What they said....

You'll have family responsibilities soon enough (even if you're single for awhile after college/military, most jobs aren't going to let you take off for a summer. I'm sure I'm not the only Scoutmaster that has to beg & plead for a WEEK for summer camp!) TAKE THE JOB!

Why are you hesitant to go? You'll be able to do your own "priceless" commercial when you're done.
