I spent the weekend at SBR making plans for next summers National Jamboree. The site is in great shape and many changes will be in place for 2017. Yes there were mistakes me in 2013 and those in charge are big enough to admit it.i will list some of those in a bit but first my rant. Yes you must pay for the privilege to staff the jamboree. For a 16-26 year old this is a really great way to attend the jamboree. We adults get to supplement those young people so they can attend and help. There are many that have told me they would staff if they got a cheaper deal or free. Well you are getting a cheaper deal. The staff fee is 100 less then the skull leader fee. Or even the youth fee which by the way is the same as the adult. With a staff of 5000 hopefully, if we cut there another 100 that's a half a million $ that needs to be made up.
The schedule for next year was adjusted so staff can arrive on Saturday and leave late Friday or early Saturday two weeks later.
The solar showers for staff are awesome they really do work
There will be bus transportation to your work site plus to get participants to those far out sites.
Bus pickup for staff will be right by the dining hall. No more hill to climb.
There will be constant staff shuttles from Echo to C and D for summit center access across the dams.
No scheduled activities except canopy and big zips. Everything is open activity.
Saw some new tents not sure if these will be the new staff tents or not but they are very nice. Also it seems they are making platforms for all the staff tents.
You all know about bridge day in WV.? If not look it up the Summit has there own version from the Consol Energy bridge. 92' free rappel. It's being done for the Helmets and Harness program.
You can register for staff on the summit website if you want to have a really great time sign up for Aerial Sports Climbing experience is not necessary but is nice. We will train on site. So if you want you can be a Level 1 climbing instructor for the jamboree.
To end this I will say something. The jamboree is not about you it's about the youth. I will just about anything to help insure a youth has a great time.
I paid my fees with my pocket change over 4 years.
