OK here is what I know from talking to a good griend that lives very close to the SUmmit.
Work has started and the roads have been cut. All utilities will be under ground as much as possible, The next Jamboree will be there. It will be a different type of Jamboree with troops from all regions mixing together in villages. the staff will all be housed in one place. No one will ever have to walk more that 1.5 miles to get anyplace. The arena will hol 80-100K and open onto one of the lakes, Think of the possibilities with that. There are two AMtrak stations close to the Summit plus the Greenbriar airport will be used for Charters to the Jamboree(it handles AF1 so there is no problem).

I have been told that there will be 2K less staff.

What was the staff situation like this year? Too many? Can you make a few comments about the staffing experience at this Jamboree? I'm curious for other reasons. My son had a very good experience with the merit badge midway. He earned a fair amount and had a good experience. He just got a car so he took Auto Maintenance and anything car related. LOL.

I have staffed the last 4 all at the ACtion D Rappel Tower.In 97 they had all action center staff at wilcox which was actually pretty nice. SInce 01 we have been at SC 4 about a half mile hike to our tower. Living in the SC could be better due to lack of toilet and shower facilities. There are some but not near enough for the staff housed there. In SC3 they had one toilet for men and one for women. They had one shower area that both men and women had to share. Living in a tent for almost 3 weeks can be good and bad glad the rain held off. In 01 we had 24 hours of rain then lots of mud and muck. If I did not enjoy my experience I would not ever return so I guess I do as I will go back one more time and then maybe the world in 2019 I will be 71 then so we will see. I let my youth staff run the tower. Train them then let them go do the job and do it they did. I had adults not happy with that decision but I am all about the youth.

I did get a chance to see Fox (from DELMARVA COUNCIL) who was with me at Rodney.

I also saw my old boss and current NCAC President. He's on the committee in charge of figuring out the move to WV.

His wife was in the Merit Badge Midway trailer moving large piles of paper.

My favorite display was the NESA tent with every Eagle Medal and Patch variation ever done.

I also liked the display of the soon to be Robotics MB....kids are gonna like that one.

I spoke with a friend who worked in the Joint Command Operations Center at the Jamboree.

The number of staff was increase/boosted this year by 700 because of lower than expected Scout turn-out.
(Needed the $$$$.)

The Cleveland Contingent of 4 troops (cost $1520, including 4 days of touring) could have easily been 5.
Had plenty of quality adult leaders applications, too.

FWIW, as of now, I'm not going in 2013,
I think it there will be logistics and infrastructure problems.
