Still running the camp!

You gotta love anecdotes.

This year the troop went to Camp Roosevelt in southern NJ because of summer camp issues in the Philadelphia area (don't get me started). A good friend of mine is from the area, and went there when he was a scout some 30 years ago. So I thought it would be nice to invite him over for the day, and received an enthusiastic approval from the SM.

As he's walking around the camp, he comments "this wasn't here then" and looking at Sparks Lodge, he comments that he knew Grandpa Sparks.

He couldn't remember the last name of the camp director from back then, but knew his first name was Dickie. As we head to the chow hall, we went into the camp office. Sitting there at the Camp Director's desk, as he was 30 years ago, was Dick, still running things.

That's how you keep a good program going, not by turn over at leadership positions.

I Love seeing camp roosevelt on here

Postby BSAEgl » Mon Feb 20, 2006 1:39 am

Its great to see Camp Roosevelt on here. I've been on camp staff for the past 3 years and i must say i love this camp. I'm on both COPE and First Aid Staff. This year should be an exciting year at roosevelt, although im sorry to say that i might not be serving on staff. If I do I will be helping at COPE and serving as the EMT in the health lodge. Im also looking into bringing a ham radio day to roosevelt once a week during summer camp. The Amateur radio club i belong to is looking into making this a possibility, check us out on the web www.eclwa.org I hope you decide to come back to roosevelt this year because we would love to have you. we're here for you.
