We just got back from summer camp at CLR. Monday night/Tuesday Morning a very large storm rolled through and knocked down lots of trees (200+ estimated) and at least one Kaibo. National
weather service was on hand later and they surveyed the damage and determined that two microbursts collided at camp and that winds of 100-115mph were present to do that amount of damage. Fortunately, no one was hurt. The High Adventure program area staff were not in their area when the storm hit because they had youth out on outpost for wilderness survival. A tree came through one of their tents and mangled the cot, I would not want to think about what would have happened had they been in there. The Brownsea Island area was demolished and all the staff were able to get out unscathed. Several troops had tents blown down and there were alot of wet kids w/ soaked gear. Some trees amazingly fell between two tents or were bridged over a tent. There was no power for about a day and a half.
The staff at CLR was excellent. They were able to clear trails and we only missed 1/2 of a day of program. It was amazing to see everyone pitch in and help out. I definitely felt God's presence in the storm and that no one was hurt but could also see Him at work with the response and how people came together.
Other than the little bit of wind we got...we had an amazing week at Camp.
