I have seen references to the UOS but have never seen any information locally from my Council/district. What is it?

A day of council wide training sessions for adult leaders on everything from cub crafts to commissioner classes. Our attendance gets bigger every year.

Ours got big enough that we have split them. POW WOW is doing the Cub stuff and UOS is handling the Boy Scout Stuff. Great training though. One of the best things is the exchange of ideas from different people.

UOS

Ours carried both names this year, University of Scouting and Pow Wow. I imagine this was to wean us from the old Pow Wow name, which I like, haha.

Oh okay. Now Pow Wow I have heard of but have not been able to attend. I always thought that it was Cub specific.

Pow Wow was Cub specific. The University has replaced the Pow Wow's in our area and offers more to more people. The last one I went to, I was finishing with Cubs and was already involved with the troop. I went to a selection of classes, some for Cubs and some for Scouts.

Training

It's all about Training, rededication, learning new themes, and even Recruiting. I wish more Scouters went to both, all, either, or however you want to say it. I go to anything I can manage. Not only will one learn (if their mindset is right), there are opportunities to share with classmates like you do at Roundtables.

The University of Scouting that my council (Coronado Area Council out of Salina, Kansas) runs in November has all of the things mentioned above. The UoS here also offers Den Chief Training which I have helped run/run the last 2 years and will probably go in for a 3rd year this year.

It gives youth in the council an opportunity to participate in the UoS. However there are no other youth classes offered....for now.

We have a council POW WOW for the cub scout leaders. We also have 5 councils join together to put on a University of Scouting, called 5 Star.
