Powder Horn Course

Postby riverwalk » Thu Feb 28, 2008 11:43 pm

For those that might consider the area, we are having a Course in Circle Ten Council this year. Two weekends in October, at our Council's Camp Cherokee at Clements Scout Ranch. I don't mind contacts about the details, or I can post answers to questions, whichever is best for the moderators?

Can anyone attend Powder Horn or do you have to be a Venture Leader?

I was curious about it and might want to attend. I figure any training I could get would be good.

I am hoping to venture into Venturing (okay...trying to be funny) and this sounds great.

Also, would be great to expand my knowledge and re-hone skills.

It is a fantastic program and you can take it over if you wish. Each place it is held it is different as the staff is not the instructors(if done correctly). you bring in consultants(experts) in each area to do the instruction. For instance we had a local white water outfitter show was on the US Kayak team come in and do Kayaks and Canoes, The Asst. Director of Goddard Space center come in do Compass and start navigation. A former VP of NRA do shooting sports, The Head of Hunter safety in the Western Region of Pa do Hunter Safety on and On. for Winter Sports we went outside the box and did curling as the pittsburgh Curling Club has a portable unit.
I heard of another course that for Hunting they had Falconry so each course is different and you can take it as many times as you wish.

I wish I could go. But my wife is going "overseas" starting in June for about 430 days. So I am home with the kids and am very limited in what I can do.

That sure "sounds" like a deployment.
Best wishes for her safe return.

It is in the works. I am not sure when as they have had alot of staff changes up there. I think 09 or 10 would be about when they have it. It will not be on their schedule until everythuing is in place.

Powder Horn Course

Postby riverwalk » Fri Feb 29, 2008 4:10 pm

Mike, any registered adult Scouter may attend. Gotta run now, but will check later for the on line information. I have brochures in hand however, and it's possible we could link up given our proximity. It would be great to see you attend, and meet another poster from this site. This site has resulted in good local networking for me.

There is a fee time line of course, so early decisions are best.
