NLE

Does anyone know if there is a policy anywhere that says you have to have NLE before TLST? We are running into an issue with our spring training. We are having training on April 1 (Saturday) - yes, I know April Fools Day, but for convenience for all would like to have NLE the Thursday right after during roundtable (in another room, of course).

That is the choice of the council. While the BSA does not make it a requirement they do strongly recommend it.

The new courses are designed as a continuum, a progression or sequence of courses that build upon the previous set of instruction. Leader Specific Training will make more sense IF you take NLE first.

You cannot build a strong building without first laying a good foundation.

I've been director of cub leader training for the last two years. We always have the NLE before, but our district has just split as of Jan 1 and we are working with a new director of scout leader training and a new training and program chair. Normally, the NLE is done before - always has been, but we're looking to make an exception this time because of how everything falls. We could have had NLE at the same time as the Feb roundup, but there wasn't time to publicize it.

The way I'm looking at it is that most will not need NLE - they will have had it as cub leaders. It will only be a small portion that also need the NLE.

I staff a lot of training and IMHO not taking NLE would be like trying to teach someone to cook but not teaching them how to light a fire.
You need both. It is a progression of learning skills.

Not saying that they won't be having it - just a couple days later this time. The only ones who need to take the NLE are the ones who haven't taken it before anyways, and since most have moved up from cubs, there will only be a few needing it. The main training is scheduled for the big training day where all the different trainings for cubs, boy scouts, merit badge counselors, committee training,... Can't effectively change when it is when it's been on the calendar. It's just rough when I'm the "senior" member of the committee and I've only been doing this for a little less than 2 years.

I thought that you were saying that they would not be taking NLE at all.
Some of the subject mater in specific would make a little more sense if NLE was taken first but taking it a little later would be a real problem.

I understand about Top Position and being new. Kevin had just moved up from Tigers to Wolves when I was elected Committee Chair. I held the position until he was a Web II.
