Training Update

Postby wagionvigil » Wed Jun 16, 2010 7:42 am

AT our area meeting yesterday training was discussed. If your training is registered at council or you have the trained card to prove you are trained for your position you are good to go. But lets say that your council was not real good at registering training in records and you cannot prove that training. You are out of luck and will be taking the training again. No longer can you say I am trained and have it entered in the record.

So what you are saying, wagion, if your council has poor record keeping you will have to redo what you already did even if you have a valid printed certification the training was completed?

We've had to go down and sit on their desks and watch them input stuff. It's better now with the online stuff though.

No; he said (or meant) you need one or the other. If your council does not have it in the system (and nobody can find the training record), then you must present your training card. That is, of course, if you even got one. If it's not in the system and no documentation can be found (even though you took it), then you're screwed... Do over.

We all know how Councils have been notoriously poor at maintaining training records. [I won't even mention advancement records.]

Even so, this is a good thing. Moving to MyScouting will force training records away from ScoutNet and into a system that shows what's there (and, more importantly, what's missing and supposed to be there), print copies of our own training certificates, etc.

And the rest of my Adult stuff (knots earned, time in Service, current positions, past positions, etc...)should
also be available for me (all registered persons) to see when I log in.

I really did not like that fact that I had to prove to other Councils as I moved that I had actually served as XYZ just because
one Council used a different database system than the other. Even when told all will use Scoutnet, nothing was
transferred over so I - me - myselfhad to go to old council and seaarch paper files and copy them because old
council did not have the staff to do it.
