outdoor leadership training during summer camps?

Postby Rhett » Tue Jul 12, 2005 10:57 am

I work mostly every weekend , and I am unable to attend and participate in my districts outdoor leadership training sessions given on weekends. This section of training is all that I need to become certified as "Trained". Does anyone know of additional sessions of this type of training being given during weekdays or during summercamps? :?:

I have never seen outdoor training given during the week, except at summer camp. Check the camp you could attend. Sadly, you may have to take vacation time to do this, as have many others.

ACtually this might be a great idea. I am going to bounce this off our council training chairman soon.

I agree, I plan on doing the same with Greater Pittsburgh Council. At the present, we do not offer this particular training at Summer Camp.

I see one problem with doing outdoor skills training at summer camp. STAFF. I have work outdoor skills training and know how many people it takes to do that training. Staff at summer camp has their hands full targeting the boys program and I personally don't think it is fair to pull staff away from their program to teach adults. And I think it would be hard to get people to staff during the week. I know I couldn't. And if I was at camp with my boys my focus has to be on them. Our SM works most weekends. He did outdoor skills by planning. He found out when the next training was being held and arranged to take two days off for it. He traded shifts with another fireman. It had to be preapproved by his captain at least 4 weeks in advance.
