What Color Epaulets?

Postby Troop173Scoutmaster » Sun Aug 19, 2007 8:09 pm

I know this is an old thread, but I thought this would be a good place to post this question.

I serve as SM for my troop and wear red epaulets. (no issue)

I also serve as Assistant Advisor to my OA Chapter. What color epaulets? I've been told silver, but don't know.

NOW - after the above question is answered, here is the follow-up: Do I leave the silver on w/ SM patch, or only when I have the "Assistant Advisor OA Chapter" patch on?

Thanks!

Officially you wear silver with your OA adviser (district) & red with SM. Unofficially, I am thrifty so I only have one shirt, I wear silver sometimes when I am doing district stuff, but still have my ASM patch on. I have yet have anybody say anything. I know of one troop that wears red white & blue epaulets.

Believe I have answered this before, but I wear the loop color that matches the position patch on my sleeve.

Scoutmaster patch - Red loops
Unit Commissioner - Silver Loops
OA Chapter Advisor - Silver Loops

I have multiple positions, but only one shirt. I change the epaulets depending on the position in which I am currently serving. I leave the SM path and troop number on all the time. I've never had anyone question it. At different times I have worn my SM patch and troop number with Blue, Red, Orange, Green, and Silver epaulets. I don't have any gold epaulets yet, but I could wear those too.

I have even worn multiple colors at the same time before, and never had a complaint. (although I don't think it would look good to wear all six colors at once).

I had a Chapter Advisor when I was young who used to wear rainbow epaulets (before rainbows had other meanings). That way he always had the right color on, no matter which position he was currently acting in.

Officially, the epaulet color should match with your position and unit number, but the uniform police seem to be pretty lax in enforcement on this particular rule.

Loops

Good answers about which color loops to put on the epaulets. I see mistakes sometimes (official things), but most people are trying to honor the role they're in that night...and most others would not pick up on it anyway. There's always someone that would, and we have them at work too, haha.

Here's a thought though, next time the Unit has inspection, someone might actually catch this?
