Postby fin24000 » Thu Mar 22, 2007 12:13 am

OK So I have a few things I have be wanting to ask about ;)......

1. The shoulder cords (click to link go to ScoutStuff). What type of assignment are they talking about, like grubmaster, webmaster or something elce?.

2. When I was at NYLT and then again at a MB class I kept seeing scouts with the totin'chip patch on there left pocket, I dident think you where suposted to do that, im I wrong?

3. OK again I have seen alot of scouts wearing name plates, but I cant remember where to put them. lol yeah stupid but.....

Thanks yall :).

Aaron.

1. The shoulder cords ([link]http://www.scoutstuff.org/BSASupply/ItemDetail.aspx?ctlg=05NDC&ctgy=PRODUCTS&c2=UNIFORMS&C3=UACCESSORIES&C4=&LV=3&item=003SC[/link])

These cords are for cub scout youth leadership positions. The one pictured is for the denner. A similar one with only one cord is for the assistant denner. The ones for Den Chief and Webelos Den Chief don't have the tab to pin it to the shoulder, because the boy scout uniform has epalets you can put it under. There is also one other that is not mentioned on the page you linked. A Den Chief can earn The Den Chief Service Award, which is a permanent cord that can be worn even after they quit serving as Den Chief.

You are correct. The only patch that should be worn on the right pocket flap is the Order of the Arrow lodge flap. Though the Totin' Chip patch (and several others) is shaped like the pocket flap, it is supposed to be worn only as a temporary patch. Therefore, it should be centered on the right pocket (below the flap). No patch should be worn on the left pocket flap (above the rank?). I have seen many scouts wear these wrong, and I'm sure they will continue to do so until BSA figures out that they should reshape the patch so it doesn't look like it goes there.

If you choose to wear a nametag, it should be placed above the word strips (Boy Scout of America, Varsity, Venture, Leave No Trace - Guide, Interpreter Strips, etc.) above your right pocket.

Den Chief Service Award

Actually, since a Venturer can now be a Den Chief, they (both male & female) can also earn the Den Chief Service Award.

Nobody said a cub could earn the Den Chief Service Award. I left it for fin24000 to know what a Den Chief is. Cubs can't be Den Chiefs either. The Den Chief has cords like the Denner and Assistant Denner, so the cub youth leaders will see similar youth leader insignia for the other youth leaders they work with.

Left

I'm thinking this could fit into this multiple Insignia topic, so here goes.

Speaking of the left flap, one does see infractions as with other locations. One thing that DOES go on the left flap, is the pin representing the Emergency Preparedness Award. I see few earning this, though it exists for anyone in Scouting. But I do see the pin worn in various places, besides ye old left flap thingy.
