Changing all red tabs to green

Met a scouter the other day wearing the older uniform but with the new green tabs.

Their troop has changed all red tabs for green so the newer scouts (with new uniforms and green tabs) feel more welcome.

Nice touch, IMHO.

bah! That's probably why the scout shops around here can't keep green tabs in stock. I bought a new shirt with tabs in August. When I realized my son had outgrown his shirt in Sep and bought his shirt the shop near my house was out of green tabs, so I gave him mine. Each time I stop in either that one or the one near my office they say "We got them in, but sold out right away."

I would expect that they would have received enough tabs to go with the shirts. They're probably selling out to troops like that one.

Some did....with the new numeral color scheme the unit anniversary bar/number is somewhat muted.
HOWEVER, when the unit anniversary number is 75, this is shown in a field of red.

This troop turns 80 in 2010.
They are keeping the 75 since the color scheme for 80 goes back to the muted colors.

The former SM of this unit (left in April) is also the manager of the Cleveland Scout Shop.

FYI

Read in the promotional literature on the new uniform, that YES you could mix and match!! Will have to wait for the "official" word via the Uniforming Guide. But the promotional piece (which was packaged with my new shirt from a national order) said it was OK to mix old and new.

We just bought green shoulder loops and green troop numbers for all the Scouts & Scouters in the troop. THAT was a pretty penny at the Scout shop!

I'm sure it was either 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, etc..

Ask them to look at the BSA brochure.

Oh, that will make the Mrs. sooooooo happy. Her words were something along the line of "there's no way in (some very warm place) that I'll be buying a new uniform just to replace a pair of socks."

Our District Professionals have said that the red loops are no longer and everyone is supposed to change to the green. Haven't seen anything official on this, but that's their story.

They no longer make the red tabs, just like they no longer make wool uniform shirts with metal buttons.
(Our COR sometimes wears one of these, circa 1945.)

As has been mentioned before, any official uniform, regardless of when it was made, is acceptable BSA attire.

Personnaly, as long as I have the pre-centennial shirt, I'll wear red tabs with it.
(I've even stashed-away a few sets of red tabs.)

I just love trying to provoke the uniform police.

I like the new uniform. Just bought a new shirt for younger son since he outgrew the old one. I lost a bunch of weight so I got the new shirt and pants. I see no need to buy new socks yet, though. Besides being much more expensive, we have a whole drawer full of red top socks. Will mix and match until National says otherwise.

Wore the new uniform to Scouts the other night and ALL the guys want the new green shoulder loops. Haven't ordered the one piece Troop number patch yet, but I figure they will all want that too.

Are the new Troop numerals available in a one piece patch? I have not been able to find out on the internet, and have not had time to stop by the scout shop. Our Troop number is 4 digits and the one piece looks so much nicer (and easier to sew!!

Just saw the new green tabs up close and personal. They couldn't have come up with an uglier color if they'd tried. Will be wearing the red tabs for a long time to come.
