BSA Centennial Rocker/Ring Patch for World Crest

There a new (very cool, IMHO) patch for your uniform.

It's a BSA Centennial World Crest Ring.
Shaped like a donut, it goes around the purple World Crest Patch.
Approximately 3/8" in width and priced at $1.49.

Not on-line yet, but I just bought two dozen at the Cleveland Scout Shop.

Hmm...could be tricky to sew on...but I'll need to see it first hand.

I've got to go by the National Office and will go next door to the museum scout shop and pick up a few.

Wonder if it would fit okay around a World Conservation badge for those boys who don't wear the world crest... It looks very good!

In case you care about the patch police ... The World Conservation Award is to be worn as a temporary insignia (right pocket) and is not a substitute/replacement for the World Crest.

Here is my suggestion, sew the World Crest and Centennial Ring together prior to putting it on your shirt. That is if you are putting it on a new shirt or a shirt without the patch.

I can remember in the 1980s that you had to go to a World Jamboree or event to be eligible to wear the World Crest. Am I wrong?

I do remember that when I worked a summer camp up in northern Wisconsin back in the early 1980s, the staff were told they were eligible because we hosted an Israeli Scout who was also on staff.

I am sure someone out there will know.

When I went to NordJamb in 1975 I was the only person from my council that attended.
I was also told I was the only person with a purple World Crest on his uniform.

Yes, I was thinking about the back of a merit badge sash. Not all Scouts wear the world crest.

FWIW, this item is currently OUT OF STOCK. (D'oh!) Estimated availability is 01/01/2010. It sure is purdy, though.

Quick question concerning these patches. Are you guys sewing these on your new shirts or are they to be phased out and not worn after a certain amount of time?

I never sewed it on. I put it in a collectors album. I use my uniform all the time with scouts and I just don't care to make it look too flashy. But that's me. Each to their own. There was no requirement to wear it.

I can't think of anything funny to say. I'm probably just blocked by my nervous anticipation of getting a new advancement guide sometime in fall 2012.
