The Paul Bunyon Award specifies that one of the requirements is the scout trains a new scout to recoeve his tote'n chip. I see this as an implict expression of the idea that the older scouts should be doing the training - after approval by SM as noted by RW Smith.

We allow the older Scouts to teach all Scoutcraft skills. This is done under the supervision of an adult leader. We do not let the older Scouts sign off on the requirements. Signing off is strictly limited in my Troop to the SM and his designees (ASM's).

We have the Troop Instructor or if he is not there the next qualified scout of the SPL's choice.

A scout should always teach the class.
This could be a way for scouts to re-earn a corner it it was cut or if they lost the card.
after a scout has been in the troop three to four years we simply say enough you can just have your lighter and knife.[/i]

One thing I have always found funny is that in cutting a corner it creates more corners.
