Well I am done with my almost 3 year SPL term on friday 06/17/05. It was a very long but interesting term and I learned a lot of life lessons.(Like how to deal with some people) I will become a Troop Guide, Troop Instructor, and possibly Den Chief now that my time is up.

Three years.....wow.

Matt: I'm certian that your leadership and management skills benefited from your long tenure as SPL.

Good luck as you continue the trail to Eagle.

New troop. I was the only one able to hold the position and now the person taking over has very low attendance probabily 10% attendance to the troops meetings, trips, and events and even that is stretching it. So I cant wait to see how it works out. He was the only one running so he was elected. But I give him all my support and I will offer as much guidance as he needs. Thats one reason I am taking the positions of Troop Guide and Troop Instructor.

good luck on your trail to eagle. I've been wondering, how stressful and difficult is it to be an SPL?

Well to be honest it all depends on your troop. It depends on the ages, how long your troop has been around, and the other leaders. My time was difficult and at most time hair pulling stress. But I did work through it and made the troop the best I could. I was given a gift from our council for the job I did in my troop. It was nice they all came down and made a nice speech and gave me a great gift at our last COH.

Troops that are older with more experience should be fairly easy to handle if you have had attended training. Dont just take it for the authority. Its work, and at times members of your troop will dislike you for decisions you make, even though they are for the good of the troop.

And always look like your having fun remember you are in scouting for yourself but now that you are taking on the top junior leadership position in the troop you are responsible for the rest of your troop.
