CAMP KITCHENS & EQUIPMENT BOXES

I'm sure if every Troop out there doesn't have one or several they have at the very least seen them at Camporees, etc.

Does anyone have any ideas or know where you can find plans for these?

Our Troop has a bunch and we are planning on adding some more, however, since these boxes are usually built out of plywood the tend to last a while. So we are seeking new designs, layouts, etc.

What works? What doesn't work?

We've always used big tuppaware containor like things you can by at Wal-Mart or Target. They've always worked out well

We had wooden patrol boxes but got rid of them. Too bulky & heavy. We switched to the Rubbermaid style. Holds just as much, just as durable & a lot lighter!

Our wooden chuck boxes are great. Yes they are bulky and heavy. But they have two doors that fold down and make work tables. These are used to put cook stoves on and the other to do prep work on. They have compartments inside that hold all the patrol's hard supplies. We do use plastic tote boxes for soft supplies. And each partol has an ice chest.

I'm looking for any ingenious designs for a new wooden box.

We have some plastic stuff, but as mentioned above...the flip down countertop makes a great work area when cooking, etc.

I have seen a plastic "cook station" but it appeared to be falling apart after a few uses. I think you need to make it out of wood to really take any abuse.

Design your own plywood box. Use some of the laminate couter top material on the inside of the door. When folded down it makes a greater counter and it is easy to clean. Just using plywood to cut on can be un sanitary. You could even put a drawer in it . The slides are available from Rockler Wood workong or WoodCraft,so are drawer fronts.

our troop recently purchased a kitchen organizer that folds conveniently into a medium size bag. it is a little heavy, but it is really handy for week long summer camps.

also, for our stoves, one of our adult leaders got custom-made metal boxes made (through work). those are very sturdy, don't rust, and are form-fitted.

As a youth, our patrol boxes used 4 2x2 legs.

These 4 also fitt through brackets (2 together) so 2 or 4 boys could carry the box.
