Hammock

I just received an army style hammock tent for Christmas, and slept in it last night... I must say, it is the best I have ever slept outside! Best part was, my family didn't break the bank to get it, as they got it and the quick suspension system for under $50. I just wanted to recommend getting one to anybody who's looking for a comfortable, lightweight, and inexpensive shelter. I had looked at Hennessy and others, but was turned away by the cost and functionality. Where I live (South Texas), a bug netting/rain fly are pretty much required year-round, several of the ones I looked at didn't have both. The one I received has both built in, so the entire thing it one piece, with a tough canvas floor, mesh sides, and a waterproof nylon roof that comes done to prevent rain. LOVE IT.

once you start hanging you cant quit... The only problem is that in Ohio and it is below 55 degrees you will literally freeze your butt off in a hammock. they make quilted covers that surround the hammocks but then you are packing more stuff than if you were staying in a tent.

The nicest thing about the Hennesey Hammocks is that they are cut asymmetrical which allows you to lay flat and even sleep on your stomach. Traditional hammocks end up putting you in a banana shape. Last i checked they give a scout discount.

What were the ones that were used by a Troop at Ft. AP Hill at the last Jamboree? I liked those ones and am looking into buying one.

We've got several in our troop who use the Hennessy A-Sym Deluxe. I took mine with me to Northern Tier this last summer and I'm glad I did. Lots of rocky and un-level ground up there, never had to worry about it. Wish I could use it at Philmont.

If you get the Hennessy, make sure you get the optional Hex rainfly. It covers more area than the regular asym fly and you'll really appreciate it. I've had a couple outings where I could just sit under my hammock/fly and stayed perfectly dry.

not sure it was a troop. There was a display on Thomas rd. by the OA thing. Those you entered from the Bottom.

I am pretty sure it was a Troop that had them. I also know there was a display of them. Now I am going to have to find my Jamboree Today Newspapers to make sure.

I remember seeing that picture; I'm pretty sure it was a troop that was using bottom-entry Hennessy Scouts. They're good hammocks, but around twice as expensive as mine.

I remember the display site. They had some drawing thing going on where Scouts could win a hammock. Since my son and I already have one each, we didn't bother registering.

I think the Buckskin Council contingent had at least part of them in hammocks in "pod" arragement of some sort. I saw them setup at our Centenial Camporee last year before the NJ.
