VLSC training

Our council is offering VLSC training during scout university. Is this something for adults only or should we expect the officers to attend as well?

I appreciate your thoughts.

i believe our council is only for adult leaders and not youths....depends on your council and age of your officers since ventruing goes to 21

VLSC is for the YOUTH. Next comes Kodiak then Kodiak X.

The course was designed to be given by the Advisor at the Crew level. However, in some areas, it seems to be working better when given at a District or Council level as more youth seem to participate.

My crew has refused to allow me and the Advisor before me to present it. They are not interested in any of the training or advancement. they just wnat to gather and have fun.

sorry ... realize that my post didnt make sense... i meant to say that our council scouting university is only for adults...not the VLSC

Agreed and understood. However, it is required to earn the Advisor's key. Because of this decision by the youth, the last Advisor will not get his key.

There is a Venturing Leader Specific Training (VLST) which is for adults & would be appropriate for scout university. Maybe that is what they are offering?

Thunder: if you want your adviser key & your crew will not let you inflict VLSC on them, you could volunteer to help put on the course at the district or council level.

That is my plan and a future WB ticket (Lead or Assist with a Council VLSC). We only have 13 Crews in the Council now and many of them are really only getting started.

I am just disappointed that our last Advisor will not get his. May be I will write a ltter to the Training Committee asking for a waiver.
