Is Venturing going to Red Loops?

Postby biglou » Sun Dec 28, 2008 6:37 am

Being extremely bored at work at 0530 in the AM on Sunday morning at the Jefferson County 911 Center, I found this in wikipedia. It was suggesting that Venturing was picking up the "red loops". I had to post this. Here is the link.

Better yet, I just am going to cut and paste for everyone to see.

[edit] Boy Scouts of America
The Boy Scouts of America uses colored shoulder loops worn on the shoulder straps to indicate the program level. Webelos Scouts wearing khaki uniforms and all Cub Scout leaders wear blue loops, Boy Scouts and leaders wear dark green loops, Varsity Scouts and leaders wear blaze (orange) loops, and Venturers and leaders wear red loops. Adults or youth who hold a district, council, or section position wear silver loops; those with regional or national positions wear gold loops.[1]

What is the verdict here? Just curious. I am sure Wagion will give us the low down.

As far as I know there is nothing in any actual BSA publication to support the idea of Venturers, and Venturing Advisors, wearing red shoulder loops.

The reference cited in Wikipedia that is supposed to back this up is the page in BSA National Supply's Web site, ScoutStuff, where they sell the loops. However, as of today, they are not even offering the red shoulder loops for sale there.

Nope, I've heard nothing about Venturers going to red loops either.
