Only an Hour

Postby ThunderingWind » Thu Aug 21, 2008 10:25 pm

Well, tongiht it was an hour of tears.

Tonight was the first scheduled meeting after the summer break. A break voted on by the youth members. All the proper meeting notice e-mails were sent. Short agends included.

Messages to all the Advisors, Committee Members and Parents were sent. Short agenda included.

RSVP Yes or No was requested as always.

Only three youth responded. Two no due to school, one yes (and he was there).

One Advisor responded Yes and was there.

NO ONE ELSE RESPONDED.

So the meeting was "cancelled" after 20 minutes of waiting and I just sat there just in case someone staggered in late.

This is killing me.

The Crew set the meeting last May. This was the same meeting that they voted not to meet over the summer.

We have a computer system that is automated to send out the e-mail notices.

The youth meeting agenda was set by one of the officers - who then left for college before the meeting.

The adult agenda was set by the adults based on our conversations over the summer. This is how/why the parents were invited.

I have been discovering that alot of youth just want to show up and be entertained. If they have to actually do any work to make the program go, count them out of there. They're not bad kids, just really busy for the most part.
Kind of depressing, I keep hoping that Venturing will really take off.
