Thats a tough one. BUT some ++++ are You do not have a ticket to complete. It is two weekend of having fun shooting, climbing Bike riding etc.
I was a consultant in a recent PH and they had less than 20 participants which hurt the quality of the Course. You need to really get close to 48.

Try not to charge an arm and a leg. 200.00 is the normal around here.Try for less than 180.00. Food is the big item cost. I was at one that their food service had to do the food which drove the cost up.
QUality of consultants would be a draw. We had no consultants that had anything to do with the course that I was ACDI on. Wehad a kid from SUrvivior come in and talk on working with youth, The Asst. Director LAboraty at NASA Goddard come i9n and do Land nav compas and stars. A State Mt. Biking Champion do Biking etc. we advertised that we were getting the best of the best and it helped bring folks in.

You need to explain to your registered leaders that scoutmaster training and outdoor leader training and courses an woodbadge are like school for scouters.

POWDERHORN IS LIKE RECESS!!!

I feel powderhorn has equipped me to run a better boy scout high adventure program. It also provided a much better explanation of what venturing is and how it fits in with traditional scouting.

I had more fun at One PH Course than 5 WB Courses combined. It is Fun and you learn so much. OUr participants in 06 at GPC Got so much literature it is unbelievable. I knew I was in trouble when an 18 wheeler pulled up in front of my house with the NRA literature. Actually 1/4 of the trailer came into my house. Thank goodness I was only 20 miles from the camp as it took 3 or 4 loads in my Explorer with the back seat down and boxes to the roof including the front passenger seat. The Pa game commission sent boes upon boxes of stuff. Backpacker Magazine sent their surivival issue for that year plus there hiking and backpacking guides for the mid ATlantic. I could go on and on. It depend upon the course and the quality of consultants. ALso some courses do everything and some do only what is required. Try to do it all and have outside consultants for each item.
Hunting-- The head of the PA Game Commission Hunter Safety Program in the SW part of PA.
Kayaking and Canoeing- Former Olympic Kayaker and Outfitter owner on the Yough
Backpacking- The Owners of a Backpacking Outfiter on the AT. Brought all the latest and greatest toys
Cave Exploring-- Took the crews caving at 10:00 PM
Mountaineering--A member of the Pitsbugh Explorers club That just got back from a expedition to South AMerica
You get the idea make it a WOW factor.

One reason I'm more inclined towards Power Horn.....

I don't want to have to sing silly songs

I'm not sure if I'd be able to keep a straight face if I were to be in the "Beaver Patrol."

At first I thought the singing in WB was silly, but I finally realized that everything has a purpose behind it.

My brother-in-law attended his first WB weekend this past weekend and I had to remind him everything has a purpose behind it and to keep an opening mind.

back on topic - no silly songs required in PH.

just hands on experience in climbing, rapelling, high cope, low cope, LNT, backpacking, mountain biking, equestrian, land navigation, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, scuba, and more.

RECESS!

staff could be consultants depending upon their vocation/hobbies. One member of our staff owns a fly fishing store ... qualified him as a consultant.

The best part of PH besides the hands on exposure to the various high adventure activities is learning where to find qualified help to put these programs on for your youth.

Sorry, my mistake, haha. Still use many common terms like staffer, and yes I was a visiting consultant, haha. But I was good and told them to contact "consultants" for their Venture Crew.

As far as I'm concerned, this is the place to go... http://www.powderhorn-bsa.org/dates.html

The more opportunities you have, the more likely you are to get a recruit to go... Especially if you go with him/her. If you already have Powderhorn? Then, how 'bout one of his/her Wood Badge patrol-mates. Especially if he/she took Wood Badge w/i the last three years, or so.

Personally, I'd rather enjoy traveling (a few hours) to take Powderhorn.

I took my Powderhorn out of council. I think it was really beneficial for me to see how other councils operate and what they are doing. Learned a lot and was also able to share.
