Participation by "Drafting"

Postby ThunderingWind » Sun Jan 11, 2009 5:55 pm

In discussions by some local Advisors the idea of "drafting" quality youth and adults to serve in some various positions was brought up.

We were thinking of reaching to a few Crews that are not as active and try to gain more participation by "drafting" one of their youth to serve
as Event Chair, Representative to Area VOA, Venturing Youth Rep to Council or even go so far as to "draft" them to serve as officers in the Council
VOA.

What are your thoughts?

Of course, these would be invitations to serve and come with all the proper, flowery language one usually gets when being
asked to serve and they could respectfully decline.

But, hey, it gets the word out that "we" thought them worthy of serving.

Great idea. You don't get what you want without asking :!:

Update..............

Our drafting idea has hit some energetic youth. We got a print out all Crew youth, asked each Advisor about a few of them and then made direct calls and asked them to serve.

We now have a President, VP - Program, and Rep to the Area VOA. Still hunting for a VP - Admin, Secretary, and Treasurer. Thought we had the VP - Admin but she has not returned the phone call with the final answer. So we move on the next strong candidate.

We have even went so far as to ask a new Eagle to join his local Crew and serve as one way to fulfill his Eagle obligation of giving back to Scouting. Hi smother was very happy to hear that we asked him to serve.
