Belt Loop Question?

Postby RocketJunkie » Thu Sep 30, 2010 2:36 pm

Why isn't Self Defense listed under the Sports Belt Loops? Studying at the Studios of Self Defense has taught my son discipline, focus, teamwork, hand-eye coordination, balance, personal safety, defense skills, and increased his physical strength. It seems like a perfect fit for the scouting program [Physically Strong, Mentally Awake, and Morally Straight].

The Guide to Safe Scouting Lists Unauthorized and Restricted Activities
The following activities have been declared unauthorized and restricted by the Boy Scouts of America:

Boxing, karate, and related martial arts—except judo, aikido, and Tai Chi—are not authorized activities.

And this one:
Varsity football teams and interscholastic or club football competition and activities are unauthorized activities. - Does anyone know what this means? Football is an authorized sport for SPORTS MB

Troops cannot play football or especially have a team

So I wonder why is it an authorized activity for an individual scout?

No pick up games at Camporees or Summer Camps either? It reads that you can't have a team in organized leagues.

Just like Fencing you can use it in SPorts since it is an individual activity. I believe the intent is/was to keep troops and Packs from having organized teams. I also think tag or flag FB is OK but when it becomes tackle game over.
